Ocean! 5-10-17/24

     We're going this way, that way, forward, backward, up and down, up and down, over the deep blue sea!

In art, we explored mixing different items! We used water, paint and salt together to see how it would paint with sponge brushes. Some friends even painted with their fingers to see how the texture felt, others decided to wait until it was dry to touch it.

We also used paper bags, crinkly scissors, paint sticks and googly eyes to make whatever sea creature we wanted to!

In the touch table we added sand, sand molds, small shovels and buckets for a beach feel.

In the science center we had seashells to explore with the magnifying glasses and we also had different cards with sea creatures names and pictures. 

For dramatic play, our kitchen area was back open, with items you would take on a picnic to the beach. 

Puzzles being a favorite, we added magnetic fishing ones to the manipulation area.

Our friends really enjoyed taste testing goldfish this week. Even if they were hesitant to try a new flavor, they at least licked it and some discovered a new flavor they really enjoyed.   

Next week : It is bubble and popsicles week but also focusing on what has been favorites of our friends this year!

Space! 5-6-10/24

For art we made a surprise for our moms for Mother's Day. None of our friends wanted to be pictured, as some of our friends wanted to wait to give their gift.

Then we marble painted planets! Choosing which colors, then dropping the marbles in and shaking the box and watching the marbles go round and round.

In the block center we added floor puzzles again, as they have become a favorite peer cooperation activity. 

Our butterflies were ready to fly our of their net. Our friends were given the option to place one in their hand, and let one go. Some friends were a little nervous, and that is okay, the other friends did a great job taking care of them and letting them know they were were doing a great job and they were okay and safe!

In our sensory bin we had black beans to represent the dark galaxy sky, stars, moons and planets, jars, and scoops to catch the stars in.

At the table for a fine motor activity we had a star on a chenille stem with a number and corresponding dots, our friends then used cut up straws to thread on that many.

We also, tasted tested moon fruit ( freeze dried fruit snacks) and moon pies!  

Next week :we will explore the ocean!
